Damir Sokić
Damir Sokić (Nova Gradiška, 1952) enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 1972, and in 1977 graduated in painting in the class of prof. Nikola Reiser. He is an associate of the Master Workshop for Painting by prof. Ljubo Ivančić and prof. Nikola Reiser from 1977 to 1979. Since 1976, he has been intensively exhibiting paintings, sculptures, objects, in situ installations, and writing about art. He has exhibited independently in forty-two solo exhibitions. He has participated in numerous projects and group exhibitions at home and abroad. From 1986-1993 he lived and worked in New York. He received numerous awards for his artistic work, and in 2014 the Vladimir Nazor Award. He is the founder of the Gallery of Extended Media within the HDLU Zagreb. He is represented in private and public collections in the country and abroad: the Museum of Contemporary Art, Zagreb, Modern Gallery, Zagreb, Modern Gallery, Rijeka, Museum of Arts and Crafts, Zagreb, Rovinj Homeland Museum, Rovinj, Art Gallery, Split, Museum of Contemporary Art of Istria, Pula, Neue Galerie, Graz. Since 1999, he has been permanently employed at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, and is now a full professor. Since the establishment of the doctoral study, he has been a mentor at the Postgraduate Study of the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb.
