Petar Barišić
Petar Barišić (Vrlika, 1954) graduated from the School of Applied Arts in Split in 1973. In 1978, he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in the sculpture class of Prof. Ivan Sabolić. From 1978 to 1981, he was an associate of the Master Workshop of Prof. Frano Kršinić. At first, he created sculptures in wood and bronze, incorporating folklore and native motifs that he condensed into dynamically conceived forms, then he turned to the design of purified geometric volumes with references to avant-garde works from the beginning of the 20th century (In Honor of the Ukrainian Avant-Garde, 1991). In the latter period, he created imaginative ambient installations made of wood, stainless steel and plexiglass (White, 2009) and highly polished aluminum (Deaf Bell, 2009–2011). He has received several awards and recognitions, including the Grand Prix at the 5th Triennial of Croatian Sculpture in 1994 and the annual “Vladimir Nazor” award for fine arts (for the monument to the Fallen Croatian Defenders in Đakovo in 2001).
