Ivana Franke

Ivana Franke (Zagreb, 1973) graduated in 1997 from the Graphic Department of the Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts. She has attended several study programs abroad: in 2001 in New York at the P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, in 2001/2002 in Japan at the Kitakyush Center for Contemporary Art and in 2004 in Helsinki at the Nordic Institute for Contemporary Art (NIFCA). She has twice represented Croatia at the Venice Biennale: for the first time with Frameworks working together with architects Petar Mišković, Tom Plejić and Leo Pelivan at the 2004 Architecture Biennale, then independently with the Latency exhibition at the 2007 Art Biennale. She has exhibited in numerous exhibitions: “Full empty space”, P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center (New York, 2001); “Passage d’Europe”, Musée d’Art Moderne de Saint-Etienne (Saint-Etienne, 2004); “Project Linienstrasse113 – Ivana Franke and Silvio Vujičić” (Berlin, 2007), “Avoidance” (with Damir Očko and Silvio Vujičić), Museum of Contemporary Art (Zagreb, 2005); “Levity”, The Drawing Center (New York, 2007); “Reykjavik Experiment Marathon”, Reykjavik Art Museum (Reykjavik, 2008); Manifesta 7, (Bolzano, 2008); “Lability”, Art Pavilion (Zagreb, 2010) and “Waking Background”, Peggy Guggenheim and Lauba Collection (Venice and Zagreb, 2011/2012). She lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
